Tips to save some time in the morning

It was back to work this week for me, my two week break is over! No more sleeping in and no more spending how ever long I like getting ready in the morning (or afternoon). The alarm clock is back on and so is the 'work' makeup!

Last year my mornings were very rushed. I became lazy, left things to the last minute and ended up at work with hair in a bun (sometimes still wet) and makeup slapped on! But this year I am getting organised and saving time in the morning. I thought I would put together a guide to how I am making my mornings a little less rushed giving me time to make sure I look good for work everyday.

I realise my 6:45am photo is completely embarrassing but what can I say? I'm just not a morning person!! Would you believe this was on a sleep in day?! Eeeek!

1. Shower at night - Although I have been known to love my morning wake up shower, I have started to shower at night to give me some extra time in the morning (cold splash of water on the face still required!).

2. Drying and straightening hair at night - instead of natural drying and then having to straighten my hair in the morning I have been doing my hair at night, this way I know when I wake up my hair will be smooth and mostly straight and all that is required is a brush out.

3. Dry Shampoo - Using dry shampoo every second and/or third day helps me get longer out of my wash and straighten and adds instant volume.

4. Prepare work clothes for the week - on Sunday I picked out 5 work outfits for the week. I ironed the ones that needed to be ironed and put everything on clothes hangers that I had labelled 'Monday' through to 'Friday'. Now each morning I don't have to have the 'what am I going to wear' battle and then iron the item that wins.

5. Prepare breakfast the night before - Overnight muesli has become one of my favourite easy brekkies! I soak overnight in a mason jar and eat on the way to work! Alternatively, if you're not into muesli, why not try the old 'up & go'.

6. Plan your makeup - a busy morning is not the time to be trying new makeup looks. Try and think about what items you will need in the morning and make sure you know where everything is so you don't waste time searching for products or sharpening pencils.

7. Pack your bag before you go to bed - think wallet, go card, keys, touch up makeup, lunch, ect if everything is all ready you can just grab and go in the morning.

Thanks to doing each of the above my mornings have been less stressful. I have also felt more organised and I have wanted to stay organised. I've been making the bed before I leave in the morning, getting out of my work clothes and hanging them up when I get home, packing my lunch the night before work and I have been motivated to keep things tidier. Being organised at home has also helped me feel more organised in general which feels great!

Okay, so I do know its the first week back of the year and it could all fall the pieces next week but as part of my 'Positive 2014' I am going to say I can make this a new routine and I can stick to it!
